Butter-cream Bonanza

It was apparently a temptation that could not be resisted. Two nights before Dean’s birthday I placed a cake mix and container of Butter-cream frosting on the counter in preparation of making the cake on his birthday eve. They sat there undisturbed overnight, but at some point the 16 oz of yummy frosting caught Micah’s eye and sometime after that Micah and said frosting made a trip to his bedroom.

We were blissfully unaware until the empty canister of frosting appeared in the pantry cupboard. At least he did not do a good job of hiding the evidence with this caper. When I asked him if he felt sick he said yes and indeed his hands were shaky from the mammoth sugar load he consumed. The empty canister said it contained 14 servings with 140 calories per serving = 1960 calories of initial delight for Micah that I think he grew to regret.

The only reason I am assuming regret is that once the birthday cupcakes were made and frosted (after a trip to the store to purchase another canister of frosting), Micah was adamant that he did not want a cupcake. Even a couple days later when there were still cupcakes easily within his reach, he did not partake. This was not typical behavior for Micah; generally cupcakes sitting in sight are quickly consumed.

I am not brave enough to test his newfound restraint with another canister of frosting mix as it just might tempt him back for another sugar binge, however I am hopeful he has learned that this crime of snitching did not pay. Given that he is usually one step ahead of me, he may already be stalking his next delicious prey. Stay tuned, as life is rarely dull here.
